Yoga teaches us to recognize our personal limitations. It is perfectly fine to have limitations, and it is necessary and healthy in many aspects. I have learned to focus on breathing during my yoga practices, as opposed to “getting the posture right. We each have limits in our daily personal lives, relationships, friendships, and in our professional lives – i.e.: work deadlines and obligations we place on ourselves or allow others to place upon us. A boundary of limitations is the place where if we push further we lose our peace, and then we longer can sustain the way we would like to be for ourselves and for the people we love. Not having a clear personal boundary can also lead to other issues such as anxiety, exhaustion, depression and insomnia. Learning our limitations occurs through self-awareness. In yoga we refer to this as being the “witness.” Just like a simple practice in a yoga class, how do you feel when you overextend yourself and where is the place right to stop before you do so?
